William Fogler
Distinguished Teacher 1987–88
He is know affectionately as “Dr. Design,” but his real name is William Fogler. During his 25 years of teaching at Pratt, he has carved a very special niche in the hearts of both students and colleagues.
Bill brought with him his practical design experience and fine academic credentials when he came to Pratt as a part-time faculty member in 1962. A holder of bachelor degrees from both Pratt and the University of Maine, Bill also earned a master’s degree and a doctorate from Tufts. He received his full-time appointment in 1964. Since then he has taught in the Foundation and Industrial Design departments and served briefly as the Industrial Design chairperson in the early ’70s.
William Fogler has given much to Pratt. His students have benefitted from his boundless enthusiasm and keenly creative intellect. He has shared with everyone his wonderful wit and zest for life.
It is with affection and gratitude that we honor him today as this year’s Institute Distinguished Professor.
