Senate Research Liaison

The details of and general charge for the role will be developed this year and will be brought to Steering at the end of the academic year. For this year, the charge includes the responsibilities outlined below. Given that this is a year of exploration and evaluation for the role, some of these responsibilities may take priority and it may be the case that others are not fully completed.

Liaison, 2025-26

Duties

Work with the ORSP to address the following recommendations from the Ad Hoc Research Committee:

  • Develop proposals for how Pratt can support research across all ranks and statuses.

Work with the Senate as Liaison to ORSP (and possibly other offices/units):

  • Document work in a Google Folder and share findings with Senate in the Senate Google Folder;
  • Review ORSP surveys/data collection regarding the state of research at Pratt (including resources for faculty related to research, such as grant writing and IRB approval).

Integrate language and definitions regarding research with the Senate Research Recognition Award Committee:

  • Meet with the Chair of the RRA Committee early in the semester to review the criteria and process for making the award;
  • Align the award criteria and process with the recommendations from the Ad Hoc Committee’s report and the work of the Office of Research and Strategic Partnerships.

Develop a process for how future faculty will be identified to serve in this role

  • Establish a pool based on criteria developed by the Liaison (this might include research experience, record of research grants, and experience managing a large research budget);
  • Determine how the Liaison should be selected from the pool by the Senate;
  • Propose the term of service for the position.
