Reports from the 2023-24 Ad Hoc Committees
Senate Ad-hoc Research Committee
The Faculty Senate is a key partner for the President, Provost, and administration in the co-governance of Higher Education Institutes across the country. Their role typically includes elements of research strategy and policy. At Pratt Institute, the Senate determines the winner of the Institute’s Research Recognition Award, but otherwise has no formal mechanism for influencing research strategy or policy.
In the Fall semester of 2023, the Faculty Senate formed an Ad Hoc Committee on Research. Its charge was “to gather, discuss, and present constituents concerns regarding research at Pratt. The special committee will focus on issues of policy, support, and the place of research at Pratt.” The committee was made up of five members, drawn from across Pratt’s five schools. Senators voted for their preferred committee members from a roster of candidates.
