Nominations open for Faculty Trustees and Board Non-Standing Committees; close Feb 13

The Academic Senate seeks nominations of faculty members for

  • Faculty Trustees (2 voting members)
  • Academic Affairs Committee (2 voting members, 2 non-voting observers)
  • Building and Grounds Committee (2 voting members, 2 non-voting observers)
  • Development Committee (2 voting members, 2 non-voting observers)
  • Student Affairs Committee (2 voting members, 2 non-voting observers)

Background on these positions is below. Senate constituents (faculty, chairs, assistant chairs, and staff who teach) are eligible to nominate for these positions, within the eligibility guidelines below.

All nominations are due to nominations@prattsenate.org by Monday, February 13 at 11:59pm. Please include names and, optionally, rationales for selection (max. 500 words) and any links to online information regarding each nominee (e.g., bio, CV, website). All nominations shall be confirmed in writing, and candidates shall be asked to submit a statement and resume for consideration.

The Senate will elect a slate of nominees to the Board Committee on Trusteeship, along with other nominees sent to Josie Caporuscio (jcaporus@pratt.edu), Assistant Secretary to the Board of Trustees, in the Presidents Office by Friday, February 17, 2017. The Committee on Trusteeship will make final recommendations to the Board of Trustees.

Faculty Trustee

Two faculty members serve as Faculty Trustee, with full voting rights, of the Board of Trustees for two-year terms that run from July 1, 2017 to June 30, 2019. The Board meets quarterly in October, December, March and May, usually scheduled on Wednesdays or Thursdays at noon or at 3 pm at Manhattan locations. The May Board meeting is held in Brooklyn. Faculty Trustees also serve as voting members of the Finance and Audit Committee which usually meets quarterly, also in Manhattan.

Any Senate constituent (faculty, chairs, assistant chairs, staff who teach) is eligible to nominate any faculty members for these positions, or to self-nominate if they are faculty. Board Non-Standing Committee Members

Two voting members and two non-voting observers will be selected to serve on each of the following Trustee Committees:

  • Academic Affairs: focuses on academic policy, including curriculum and faculty matters, and the conferral of honorary degrees.
  • Buildings and Grounds: focuses on facilities, the campus master plan, capital projects, real estate, security and physical plant policy.
  • Development: focuses on strategic approaches in fundraising from individuals, corporations and foundations, government, alumni, and other funding sources. Also focuses on fundraising events such as the annual Legends dinner.
  • Student Affairs: focuses on campus life policy, including all matters pertaining to student life and the campus community.

Selection criteria for each committee’s faculty members, which include descriptions of each committee’s responsibilities, are posted on my.pratt.edu under Resources > Policies > Board of Trustees.

Each committee is chaired by a trustee and includes between four and eight trustee members. In addition to faculty members, trustee committees include student members and administrative liaisons. The Committees meet quarterly and as the need arises.
